Double cup success for Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s ladies

Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s ladies progressed in two knockout competitions in three days – and both were in emphatic fashion.

First up was the over-60s double rink, where Spalding cruised past Long Sutton. The home rink, skipped by Gloria Haney, won 24-10, while Margaret Dark posted a 25-12 victory at Sutton.

The ladies were then pitched against Boston in the Yetton Trophy – and again won very comfortable.

Spalding started well and never looked back, led by an impressive 38-12 win at Boston for Pat Crampton, Maxine Coleman, Sylvia Wade and Margaret Dark.

Gloria Haney’s set kept things close at Boston, narrowly losing 14-18.

Spalding were just as dominant at home, as Gill Needham posted a 27-8 scoreline, while Annie Dunham won 28-25.

The final score was 107-63 to Spalding.

Next up for them is Scunthorpe on January 16.

  • Spalding IBC A suffered a rare defeat in Division One of the men’s Lincolnshire League at the hands of Scunthorpe.

This fixture – especially away from home – is always a tricky one and Scunthorpe used their home advantage well to secure a 14-4 points victory.
