Winter Paralympics silver medallist Jade Etherington was the inspirational guest at the latest South Holland Duke of Edinburgh’s awards presentation event.

Before presenting the awards at a busy hall at University Academy Holbeach, Jade talked about her skiing successes at Sochi 2014 and the trials and tribulations leading up to the event.

Six candidates from UAH, three from Spalding High School and four from Spalding Open Award Group received gold awards. They will receive their full certificates at a palace presentation, probably from Prince Edward.
Fifty-one silver awards went to candidates from Spalding Open, Spalding Grammar School and UAH.

And 83 bronze awards were shared by candidates from Spalding High School, Spalding Open, UAH and Spalding Grammar School.

Awards committee secretary Peter Kite said: “The packed hall heard from a number of the successful candidates giving short talks or showing videos about their experiences, especially about their expeditions.
“The committee was grateful for the presence of representatives from many local clubs and to receive cheques from Spalding Lions Club, Spalding Inner Wheel Club and Spalding East Townswomen’s Guild.
“These funds enable candidates in this area to go out on expedition properly equipped.”
