£41,157 court bill for food firm after man severs fingers at Pinchbeck factory

A food firm has been fined £40,000 after an employee had two fingers severed in a mixing machine at its Pinchbeck factory.

Nicholas Taylor was cleaning the equipment at Greencore To Go in Wardentree Lane when the accident happened in April last year.
Boston magistrates heard last week that he had had no training on the Orbital machine.

The Health and Safety Executive, which brought the prosecution, found that the company failed to provide and maintain a safe system of work for cleaning it.

Greencore, a supplier of chilled, frozen and ambient foods, admitted two breaches of health and safety legislation and was fined £20,000 for each. Costs of £1,037.85 and a victim surcharge of £120 were also ordered to be paid.

The company agreed an out-of-court compensation payment to the victim.
