Rayment eyes new faces after trio make Spalding United exit

Spalding United boss Pat Rayment is looking to bolster his Spalding United squad ahead of two tough Evo-Stik League First Division South tests in four days.

The Tulips make the trip to Chasetown on Saturday (3pm), before hosting high-flying Shaw Lane Acquaforce on Tuesday (7.45pm) in what will be their first home league game since the win over Belper Town on September 8.

It seems likely that Rayment’s side will have a few new faces for those clashes, with the club having released Ross Watson, Nialle Rodney and Adam Millson over the past week.

Keeper Michael Duggan (unavailable) and striker Tom Waumsley (ankle injury) also miss both matches, leaving Rayment down to the bare bones.

Amazingly, stand-in keeper Jordan McCready is also banned having been sent off on loan at Pinchbeck United, leaving Rayment with a real dilemma.

“My immediate time is being spent on locating another keeper and bringing him in on a short term loan,” said the Tulips chief. “The games ahead against Chasetown and Shaw Lane Aquaforce are difficult ones.

“I am also looking to bring in another two players to strengthen the squad and further our ambition of winning promotion this season.

“We are in the process of putting out seven-day notices – so it’s a matter of watching this space.

“The current set of players all get on well together so the players we bring in will be ones who will compliment this and help propel team spirit to a new level.

“We did not want to lose Adam Millson, but fully understand his reasons for wanting more match time.”

Spalding go into the two fixtures in seventh place, just five points behind second-placed Shaw Lane with two games in hand.

Saturday’s opponents Chasetown are down in 19th place and have yet to win at home.

They do, however, come into the game in a confident mood, having won 3-2 at Carlton Town last time out.

It’ll be the Tulips’ fifth away league game on the trot – and they’ve yet to be beaten in that run.
