Newman helps Spalding United bounce back, Moulton and Pinchbeck win again

Jake Newman grabbed the only goal as Spalding United earned a fine 1-0 win at Goole in Evo-Stik League First Division South on Saturday.

Striker Newman notched on 24 minutes to settle a tight contest, as the Tulips bounced back from their midweek FA Cup disappointment in typical style.

Spalding leapfrog their opponents in the table as a result if the victory and are now seventh, five points off second place with two games in hand.

Pat Rayment’s side have no midweek game, but visit 19th-placed Chasetown next Saturday (3pm).

Meanwhile, Andrew Tidswell’s hat-trick inspired Holbeach United to a 5-0 UCL Premier Division win over Wellingborough Town. Click here for a full report and reaction from Carter’s Park.

In the ChromaSport PDFL, Moulton Harrox are back on top of the Premier Division after making it nine wins from as many games with a 5-4 victory over Riverside.

Skipper Billy King led by example with a double for Moulton at Broad Lane, while Joe Townsend, Ollie Maltby and Ian Bradbury also got in on the act.

Third-placed Holbeach United Reserves are two points off the pace after they could only draw 2-2 at Ketton. Tom Gosling and Keiron Rose scored for Omar Joof’s Tigers.

In-form Pinchbeck United remain fifth after thrashing Stilton United 5-0 at Knight Street. It’s now an impressive five clean sheets on the spin for Ian Dunn’s side.

Elsewhere, Crowland Town are now rock bottom following their 3-1 loss to Thorney.

In Division One, Sutton Bridge United are up to third after a 3-2 victory at Whittlesey Athletic Reserves.

But Spalding United Reserves lost 4-2 at home to Warboys Town and Long Sutton Athletic suffered a very disappointing 3-0 defeat at Baston.
