LETTER: MP Hayes’ sudden concern at immigration annoys me

Mr Hayes, now safely re-elected, seems to suddenly be deeply concerned by mass, uncontrolled immigration.

There is no way we can properly control our borders, our own laws or preserve our culture whilst we remain in the EU and the majority of Conservatives in Parliament wish to stay members at all costs. A few nominal “rebels” changes nothing.

I am annoyed at this attempt by our MP and a few of his colleagues to steal the ground from under UKIP, by saying things they happily pilloried us for daring to mention during the election.

One of the differences between our parties is that UKIP have campaigned for years for Brexit, Conservatives did the opposite. What we hear from them now is just noise, intended to give a false impression.

Don’t be fooled by this smokescreen, it’s just possible some minor and temporary restrictions to free movement will be agreed but you can safely bet they will be recinded once the present crisis has passed.

Back in the day we voted for a trade club, a “Common Market” that we were assured by the then Tory leaders would make no difference to our national sovereignty. Just look where we are now.
Failure to vote out will swiftly result in an extended, expansionist and federal Europe, probably including Turkey, there will not be another chance to leave. Brexit would put the brakes on the whole ghastly thing, other nations will be encouraged to follow our example.

Anyone who loves Europe, as UKIP do, can help save it from the bureaucratic monster that is the EU by helping in the out campaign.
I’m happy that a few Tories say they want to leave, perhaps they have at last worked out that significant re-negotiation with Brussels is impossible.

They should get behind a real “Brexit” movement, I don’t somehow think Nigella’s dad’s going to achieve much.
