The Last Fare take on the Screwball Rally

Three friends have undertaken the trip of a lifetime in a bid to raise cash for a children’s charity.

Mark Herd (37), of Pinchbeck, Jason Dixon (44), of Boston, and Tom Pell (27), of Swineshead, have travelled 2,000 miles around Europe in a decorated London black cab as part of the Screwball Rally.

The trio, aptly named The Last Fare, was meant to be a foursome but unfortunately Dale Seneschall (33) had to drop out at the last minute due to a back injury.

The team left Spalding on September 23, camping in Margate before catching a ferry from Dover to Dunkirk the following morning.

The rally saw them cover:

Thursday: 220 miles (Dunkirk-Luxembourg); Friday: 370 miles (Luxembourg-Liechtenstein); Saturday: 241 miles (Liechtenstein-Asti, Italy); Sunday: 345 miles (Asti-St Honore les Bains, France); Monday: 374 miles (St Honore les Bains-Dunkirk).

The team caught the ferry back on Monday, arriving home on Tuesday night.

Mark’s wife Lisa said: “So far the boys have raised nearly £1,000 for the Make a Wish Foundation and they would like to thank everyone who has sponsored them including Kent’s of Spalding, Ford and Slater, and some very generous friends, family and neighbours.

“To enter the Screwball Rally you must have a car that costs less than £750 so the boys decided a London taxi would be a great car.

“They decorated it and even attached a barbecue to the back for when they were camping!”
