LETTER: Visit Skegness, start racing!

Back in the 1950s British Rail put up posters saying “Visit Skegness, it’s so bracing”.

The same posters for Network Rail today should read “Visit Skegness, start racing!”

Spalding people wishing to take their kids on a cheap day return to Skegness by train during the summer holiday would need to catch the first train to Sleaford just before 9am and change trains to arrive in Skegness at 11am.

On arrival they have just four hours to reach the beach, amusements, get a meal etc, before they race back to get their last connection from Skegness at 3pm and reach Spalding around 5pm.

Why spend money on upgrades to this line and then close it to passengers at 5pm in the summer?

Motorists face delays from the increased number of goods trains around Spalding plus the poor twisting road between Boston and Skegness that never gets a transport upgrade when they use their car.

I am not surprised that a item on TV said less people are using the UK seaside resorts.
