Walk ‘to Edinburgh’ in Roger’s memory

The shock death of a Weight Watchers colleague led to David Adams walking the equivalent distance of Spalding to Edinburgh and back.

Roger Norris, who was in his late 60s and from Spalding, had been planning the feat himself to fundraise for Diabetes UK, but just a week before he was due to start it in March he collapsed and died.
David took on the challenge in Roger’s memory and completed it last week. Over seven weeks with a Weight Watchers’ pedometer, he walked 645 miles – or 1,376,255 steps.
Helen Webster, who runs the local Weight Watchers classes, said: “It’s a wonderful achievement by David.
“Roger used to walk everywhere. People would see him about with his backpack.
“His death was a terrible shock to us all.
“I had promoted his Edinburgh challenge though the class, and David came to me and said ‘I’m going to do it for Roger and I’m going to do it for Diabetes UK’.”
David’s achievement was celebrated with other local members at a strawberry cream tea – the Weight Watchers’ variety – last week.
A delighted and proud Helen said: “David’s health has improved so much through losing weight.
“The man lives and breathes Weight Watchers and I’m delighted that he completed the challenge.”
