Nene Valley Harrier Hannah Molyneaux struck gold in the junior girls shot put at the English Schools Championships over the weekend.
Molyneaux, who is coached by Holbeach legend Geoff Capes, retained her title with a throw of 13.71m at the Gateshead games.
That awesome effort was just 21cm off the championship best performance.
Ranked number one in the UK for her age group, Molyneaux recently moved to the area from her previous base in Dorset in a bid to be closer to coach Capes.Representing Lincolnshire, she beat second-placed rival Eloise Locke (Kent) by an impressive 69cm.
Another Harrier coached by Capes, Bourne-based Robbie Shaw, picked up a bronze medal in the senior boys’ shot put event. His best effort of 14.78m saw him finish behind winner Kai Jones (16.34m) and runner-up Jordan Davies (15.77m).
Also picking up a medal in Gateshead was Spalding Grammar School and Nene Valley star William Hughes, who raced to bronze in the junior boys 200m.
Hughes, who was also representing Lincolnshire, finished in 22.79secs, which is just outside his personal best time (PB) of 22.51secs.
His final was won by Cameron Sprague (Avon) in 22.40secs.
Meanwhile, Hughes’ twin brother Charles and older sister Lily, both of Nene Valley Harriers, were in action for Lincolnshire too.
Lily was fifth in the senior girls 100m final in 12.10secs, while Charles – who also attends Spalding Grammar – was ninth in the junior boys’ shot with 11.26m.
Nene Valley’s Emma Hornsby was also ninth in the senior girls’ long jump with 5.28m, while team-mate Lydia Church just failed to make it through the qualifying stages of the intermediate girls’ hammer with 32.53m.
Also missing out on a final was Harrier Jasmine Allen in the junior girls’ long jump qualifying (4.86m).
Nene Valley’s Isaac Huskisson, who was competing for Cambridgeshire in the senior boys’ hammer, just missed out on a top-three finish with his best throw of 53.77m.
