On Monday, June 22, the chairman of South Holland District Council and myself, together with other district councillors and our veterans attended the district council offices in Priory Road, Spalding, where the chairman raised the flag to launch the start of Armed Forces Week.
After raising the flag, the chairman said a few words to celebrate past and present members of our armed forces.
The following day, the chairman and I were asked by Dennis Hannant, town centre manager, to lead the military parade in Spalding town centre.
The parade was organised by the Royal Lincolnshire Regimental Association. Ensigns were proudly displayed and we marched off to the sounds of the pipes from Hall Place to Market Place for a short service of thanksgiving.
May I take this opportunity to thank everyone concerned in making this event a very dignified occasion. I also would like to give special thanks to the public who lined the streets, listened to the service and remembered our brave servicemen from days gone by and all those servicemen and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect the freedoms we are able to enjoy.
Rodney Grocock
Vice-chairman
