UPDATE Friday, 2.15pm: The A16 has reopened after a seven-hour closure for accident investigations to be carried out.
The driver of a Vauxhall Corsa, a 29-year-old man from the Eye area, was flown to Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham, where he underwent emergency surgery for serious fractures and a head injury.
Friday, 9.15am: The A16 at Cowbit is closed following a serious accident this morning.
A lorry and a car collided just after 7am.
Police said: “The driver of the car is being treated for a head injury. The air ambulance is in attendance.”
The A16 has been closed at the junction with the B1176 and motorists are being asked to avoid the area.
It’s the third time a stretch of the A16 between Spalding and Crowland has been closed due to serious accidents in recent weeks.
Holbeach Drove pensioner Sheila Slater was killed on the road on May 20, and a Long Sutton woman was taken to hospital after a separate incident last Monday.
