Sixth formers roll in cash for charity

Two Sixth Form students from Spalding High School have successfully completed a demanding 50-mile sponsored cycle ride to raise funds for The Lighthouse Project.
Charity prefects Florence Perowne and Abbie Brooke took on the challenge last month setting out from Spalding initially to Hunstanton Lighthouse on the North Norfolk coast.
What started as a plan for a much shorter journey soon evolved into a significantly more ambitious undertaking, with the pair deciding to extend the route along the Norfolk coast.
The route became increasingly challenging, with a series of hills and rolling roads testing their endurance as they approached the coast.
The challenge was made even greater by the fact that neither student had undertaken extensive training beforehand.
After around eight hours on the road, Florence and Abbie reached their destination having covered more than 59 miles (79 kilometres), spent over five hours cycling while climbing almost 300 metres along the route.
The money raised will go towards The Lighthouse Project, which provides support to vulnerable people and families across the local area. It is the chosen charity of Spalding High School Sixth Form for this school year.
At the time of writing the pair have raised £1,330 and you can donate at www.gofundme.com/f/sponsored-cycle-for-the-lighthouse-project
Florence and Abbie have thanked everyone who has encouraged them and contributed to the appeal, helping them turn a tough physical challenge into meaningful support for others.
