Spalding’s Remembrance Sunday Parade in November is to revert to marching both to and from the town centre.
That’s what had happened previously, but amid cost concerns over opening roads, in the past two years the parade only marched once to St Mary and St Nicolas Church before finishing at Ayscoughfee Gardens.
Some veterans had complained about this.
Now the Royal British Legion says South Holland District Council has agreed to march back to Spalding Market Place after the service at the church and Ayscoughfee Gardens.
The event, which this year will take place on Sunday, November 8, is run by the Spalding branch of the Royal British Legion in collaboration with South Holland District Council.
Local singer Jeff Woods will be singing ‘Bring Him Home’ from Les Miserables during the ceremony ahead of the parade to be once again led by the Peterborough Highland Pipe Band.
Jan Whitbourn, the chair of the branch and one of the organisers, said: We’ve listened to the views of the community as we want to make sure everyone is able to pay their respects in the ways they wish to.
“The Remembrance period is about marking those who have lost their lives and ensuring their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
“Once again we will do that on Sunday, November 8 in Spalding town centre as well as at Spalding Cemetery at 11am on Saturday, November 7 and at Springfields’ Peace Garden at 11am on Armistice Day, Wednesday, November 11.
“The community in Spalding is always a fantastic supporter of our Armed Forces and we look forward to coming together to do the same again in November.
“Everyone will be made very welcome to attend all the parades which are being organised, please contact me if you would like to know more about any of these parades or you would like to order a wreath for any of these services”.
