One of the ‘Prosecco ladies’ has toasted her 100th birthday with friends and family.
Kathleen Stone of Cross Street, Spalding, reached the milestone on Sunday, August 16.
She tucked into a meal at The Bluebell in Glinton, near Peterborough, on the day itself.
And the following day there was another gathering with close friends and family at Pennington’s Cafe where Kathleen goes regularly with friend Marion Loveridge.
Staff have branded the pair ‘the Prosecco ladies’ due to their choice of beverage.
Kathleen was born in Spalding and worked for H Leverton and Co for over 40 years.
“We used to look after the money,” she said. “There was one of us counting it out, one checking and one putting it in the envelopes to give out every week.”
Kathleen has lived by herself for nearly 60 years after the death of her husband Jimmy. But she credits her family and friends for her long life.
“I couldn’t have got this far on my own,” she said pointing to those around her ahead of the afternoon tea at Pennington’s. “I love them all. I’m just happy that I’ve got all these nice people around me.”
