Other new nominations this week include one for Iris Landen.
District councillor Angela Newton has nominated her for a Community Hero Award, sponsored by Bakkavor, for the work she does with the Voluntary Car Service.
Angela said: “Iris is the Spalding organiser for the scheme and I, as the chairman, know just how much work Iris does.”
Iris receives around 100 calls a week from passengers wanting to book vehicles. She then has to call drivers and co-ordinate the journey, confirm with the passenger and then log the journey.
Angela added: “She is not renumerated for her time in any way. I believe her efforts should be recognised.”
Another special lady who has been nominated for a Pride of South Holland Award is Judith Dodd, who has been put forward in the Lifetime Achievement category, sponsored by Fesa UK.
Judith has, for the past 38 years, cooked Christmas Day lunch at Spalding’s Broad Street Methodist Chapel.
As well as cooking the meal, she also planned, shopped and organised the event and the volunteers. Christmas 2014 was the first time she had Christmas Day at home with her family after her husband died a short time before.
In the past Judith has also cooked for the church’s Luncheon Club, fundraised, opened her garden, provided a “meals on wheels” service for RVS and listened to children reading in a local school.
Jennifer Hemingway said: “She is a very special lady who has worked hard for the people of Spalding.”
