New slip road to help access issue

A new slip road could be built to allow access to a proposed retail development on land opposite McDonald’s off the A16 in Spalding.

Safety concerns were raised when an application for Costa and a new supermarket were revealed a year ago.
The application showed a single entry point off the A151 and Lincolnshire County Council was concerned about the layout.
Now the applicant has submitted amended plans which show a new slip road so traffic can filter off the A16 to enter the site adjacent to Woodhouse Farm.
A road safety audit accompanying the application says proposed work includes an extended central reservation, new footway on the site frontage and localised widening of the current A151 eastern arm of the roundabout.
The modification has been submitted by Commercial Development Projects Ltd, which shares an address with Marshall CDP which submitted the original application for the coffee shop and unnamed food superstore.
The original application had shown all the entry and exits via the busy A151 Holbeach Road, opposite McDonald’s. Now all vehicles will exit that way and access the site from the new slip road.
There have been other tweaks and the application was amended last month.
