Charity’s support with new sessions

A South Holland charity has launched two new groups to help the elderly, as well as an event to support those affected by dementia.

Tonic Health has teamed up with South Holland Dementia Friendly Community to mark Dementia Action week with a special gathering on Monday, May 18.

The Dementia Action support event will run from 12pm to 3pm at its Holbeach Hub on Boston Road South.

It will bring together various groups to provide a host of information and stalls as well as taster sessions for activities designed to aid those with dementia.

Support for those with the condition and their carers will be on hand alongside refreshments.

A spokesman said: “Come along and enjoy an afternoon of fun and information, gaining awareness on dementia support, seated exercise, music bingo session – reminisce over the music of the 60s.”

Tonic Health puts on a host of events locally through its hubs and two new weekly groups have just launched.
TOAST stands for Thriving Older Adults Supported by Tonic and will provide a seated exercise session on a Tuesday mornings from 10.30am until 12pm at Tonic 44 Community Hub in Surfleet.

It is open to all older adults over 50 for £5 per person which includes refreshments.

“It’s based around living well in older age, providing gentle exercise and socialisation, so users are less isolated within the community,” a spokesman said.

Meanwhile a new Movement 4 Memory group has been set up at the Surfleet venue after it’s proved a hit at Tonic Health’s Holbeach and Spalding Hubs.

The group for individuals with early stage dementia and their carers will take place 1.14pm to 3.15pm on Thursday afternoons.

It’s £5 per person and starts with seated exercises followed by refreshments and an activity.
