Spalding United Women enjoyed a superb week as they followed an emphatic 7-0 victory over Deeping Rangers Ladies with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Waterbeach Colts to move top of the league.
The Tulips produced a dominant display against Deeping on Tuesday night (March 10) in front of more than 100 spectators.
Constance Onyinah opened the scoring in the 16th minute before Tara Parker doubled the lead soon after.
Amber Nieburg headed home from a Phoebe Richards-Reeves corner to make it 3-0 at the break.
Parker completed her hat-trick early in the second half with two goals from Richards-Reeves corners, before Phoebie Eyett added a sixth and Ivy Lane finished the scoring with a superb strike.
Molli McCormack was named player of the match.
Spalding carried that momentum into Sunday’s Mother’s Day clash with Waterbeach Colts, securing a valuable 1-0 victory in difficult windy and wet conditions.
After a closely contested first half, the decisive moment arrived in the 60th minute when Onyinah reacted quickest to a loose ball on the edge of the box and calmly slotted home.
Spalding then defended resolutely to see out the win, with Nieburg delivering a commanding performance at the back to earn player of the match and secure a clean sheet.
The result lifts Spalding United Women to the top of the Alan Boswell Cambridgeshire League Division one ahead of their trip to Soham Town Rangers on Wednesday evening.
They are also back at home on Sunday, March 22 (2pm), when they host Cambridge Rangers.
