Councillors have backed a bid to lower the speed limit ten per cent through Weston Hills and the run up to it from the west.
On Monday, Lincolnshire County Council’s Planning Committee voted in favour of dropping the limit on Weston Hills Road from 50mph to 40mph.
As the road becomes Austendyke Road and goes through the village itself, it is currently a 40mph limit, but that will drop to 30mph.
Coun Thomas Sneath told the meeting local people already drove at 30mph through the village because of safety concerns: “This is an area where we always assumed it should have been a 30 and it hasn’t been.
“It has always been a 40mph but for safety. If you’re local, you will be doing 30mph. If you’re not you’ll be doing 40mph.
“There’s a pub that has an access on to the road, there’s cars parked outside homes and there’s Long Lane where there are two factories that use that road rather than going through the village of Moulton.
“I completely support this. Around the corner it’s already the lower speed limit and it appears this bit had been missed.
“Luckily the speed survey has been done and it has highlighted exactly what the locals feel.”
Coun Martin Hill said: “Through the village it should certainly be a 30mph with all those houses there.
“There’s a section where the average speed is not as high, but it’s a small section so it’s just as well to have 40mph until you hit the 30mph area.”
Coun Gary Taylor added: “As well as the factories and pub there’s terraced properties with footpaths straight out on to that main road.
“It’s a problem for certain vehicles and the road condition is poor at times.
“You have to watch out for pot holes and with the rural aspect of the road you have too look out for nature.
“Many cyclists use this road to get to the factories, so it’s a busy road at times.
“I know Community Speed Watch has carried out patrols in the past and it’s great volunteers can step up and help make their area safety.”
The decision will be subject to a public consultation being carried out.
