Appeal after spate of attempted car thefts

A spate of attempted car thefts in South Holland in the last few days has led to a police appeal.

South Holland Police say its received ‘several reports’ of offenders trying to tamper with car ignitions.

On Tuesday (March 3) put out a ‘Community Safety Alert’ on the incidents on the same morning

They were damage to a vehicle’s ignition on Fen Gate in Moulton Chapel (inc 35), the attempted theft of a van from Fishpond Lane in Holbeach (Inc 42) and a report of a stolen car in St Johns Road in Weston Hills.

An incident initially linked by police that took place in Crowland has been closed as it is now being treated as a civil dispute.

Anyone who has CCTV dashcam or doorbell footage that might assist the investigation is being asked to come forward.

Police are also urging anyone seeing a crime in progress to contact 999.

A spokesman said: “While investigations are ongoing, we’re asking everyone to take a few simple steps to help keep their vehicles safe.

“Even when parked on your driveway or stepping away for a minute, make sure your vehicle is fully locked, and windows are closed.

“Where possible, park in a well lit area or on a driveway close to your home. If you have a garage, use it.

“Steering wheel locks, immobilisers, and tracking devices can be a strong deterrent. If you have CCTV or a video doorbell, ensure it’s working and facing your driveway or street.

“If you notice damage around your ignition, door locks, or wiring, or see anyone acting suspiciously around vehicles, please contact us

“Together, we can help reduce vehicle crime and keep our community safe. Thank you for your continued vigilance and support.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lincolnshire Police on 101
