LETTERS – Signs of the times are missing

I would like to take issue with James Avery’s praise of Highways Signage regarding the Surfleet Road closure. (Voice, February 12).

There are no signs advising HGVs that Flaxmill Lane is not suitable for large vehicles, however, there is an advisory sign for Crossgate Lane, but at only one end, turning into Crossgate from Milestone Lane there are no signs.

So the question must be asked why was Crossgate Lane not closed from the beginning of the road works?

One of the current signs for Crossgate and Flaxmill Lane, states there is a No Through Road, but any map or Sat Nav shows that’s incorrect, probably why there is an increase of traffic. Did Highways actually visit the area? It’s hardly surprising that businesses are suffering as it is probably assumed that Knight Street may not be fully accessible.
