Cause of large fire near Cowbit ‘undetermined’

Firefighters are battled a large fire between Cowbit and Spalding last night (Monday, August 24).

Four crews and a support vehicle attended the blaze off Barrier Bank.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue say a cause hadn’t been determined.

The force initially said it was a hay fire and had asked people to avoid the area as it spent hours putting the fire out.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said today (Tuesday, August 25): “Firefighters used two hose reel jets, two main jets, six beaters and one light portable pump in efforts to extinguish.

“There was significant damage by fire to approximately 500m of stubble field and 600 tonnes of straw bales.

“Fire investigations have concluded but the cause remains undetermined.”
