LETTERS – Why is nothing being done about rubbish?

Spalding has changed a lot since I moved to the area over 20 years ago as have many towns and cities.

I try to stay positive and ‘do my bit’ when and wherever I can whether that be reporting street lights not working, picking up litter, reporting fly tipping.

Recently I got fed up after months of walking around dilapidated cage full of builders’ rubble, litter of all kinds located by traffic lights junction Westlode Street and Pinchbeck Road.

I reported it to South Holland District Council who said report it to Lincolnshire County Council who seemingly reported it back to the district council.

The first email said it would be removed within five working days.

Yesterday I received a second email saying no action would be taken as the work is ongoing.

There has been little or no work ongoing there for weeks, if not months, to best of my knowledge and what has that got to do with it anyway?

I am extremely angry with this response.

Is any control being exercised over what is happening on our streets?

How many millions are SHDC proposing to spend on regeneration projects?

Before throwing more money about suggest simple back to basics approach, such as a deep clean alongside establishing weekly physical monitoring of the townscape.

I see issues week in, week out, some having persisted in certain places for years.

What about the increasing number of chewed up grass verges caused by nuisance parking, a truly shocking example was seen late last week on The Parkway around corner from roadworks on Hawthorn Bank.
