Defeat for Sutton ladies

In a bottom-of-the-table clash, Long Sutton Men’s 1st team played Kettering at home and came out 3-1 winners.

Both sides had chances early on with Andy Shore playing well at the back and goalkeeper Dan Plant making several fine saves.

Josh Baker gave Long Sutton the lead on 26 minutes thanks to a short corner.

The half time score was 1-0 to Sutton.

In the 39th minute Shore passed to Luke Jackson, who found Baker in space to make it 2-0.

Ten minutes later Kettering pulled one back thanks to Grant Carlin, 2-1.

Four minutes from time Baker put the result beyond doubt with a reverse stick shot to take the scoreline to 3-1.

The result sees Sutton move off the bottom of the table and up to ninth place going into the Christmas break.

  • The men’s 2nds lost heavily at home, going down 7-0 to Pelicans. Matt Southby struck four times for Pelicans, while Gavin Johnstone (2) and Chris Page completed the rout.
  • Kettering 3rds walked away with a 5-0 walkover against Long Sutton Men’s 3rds.
  • The ladies’ 1st team took on Cambridge University 4th away and came away 1-0 losers.

Having gone 3-0 down Sutton’s Lisa Baker hit back on 45 and 50 minutes but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.
