Ollie’s night out for homeless

A teenager slept rough in the centre of Spalding recently to highlight issues faced by the homeless in the town.

Ollie Ford (14) took part in the national initiative The Big Sleep Out recently.

He was joined by mum Sarah, deputy mayor Ingrid Sheard and Vanessa Browning, of the Community Helping

Hands group, in sleeping at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field.

It’s the second year Ollie has taken part in the initiative.

Vanessa runs the Community Helping Hands initiative which looks to work with homeless people and those on their own in and around Spalding.

“I was just there to support lovely Ollie,” she said. “He always works hard for the community and is in the process of setting up his gift tree and helping us with our meals on Christmas Day.”

Ollie is currently collecting presents to give out to those who come to Vanessa’s Christmas Day and Boxing Day feasts she puts on for those who might otherwise be on their own.

You can donate by leaving gifts at Spalding Library where a box has been put out.
