Pyramid C are 14 points clear at the top of the Spalding & District League after a 5-1 victory over Consti G.
George Neary-Philips (o21) and Spencer Dawkins (o56) put them two up before Neil Grant (r7) pulled one back with a black-ball win. Dawkins’ win included a 32 break. Richard Skellett (o21) made sure of the points before Joe Garland (o7) conceded against Jason Green (o56) due to illness.
Pyramid F opened a three-point lead in second place thanks to a 4-2 success at Gosberton A, where Mark Gray (o98) had a 29 break and 27 clearance.
Shock of the night came at Consti E where the bottom team romped home 5-1 against Boundary A, who had gone into the match in joint second place. It was one-way traffic with Sean Jeynes (o14), Simon Law (scr), Martin Ulyatt (o22) and James Kingston (o35) wrapping up the points before Steve Smith saved face for Boundary (r14) with a last-frame win. Jeynes had a break of 33.
Consti H fell off the pace, going down 4-2 at Donington C. Lee Hempsall (o14), Neil Favell (o14) and Ben Wrigglesworth (o28) secured victory after Mark German (o28) had made it 1-1. Adam Mayman (o28) won the last frame for the visitors. Favell hit a 26 break.
An all-Holbeach encounter proved exceedingly close, with four games going to the black ball, one of them needing respotting. It was the ‘home’ D team who prevailed, seeing off the C team 4-2 thanks to wins from Don Monk (o21), Paul Daw (o28) and Wayne Fobelets (o21). C team victors were Nick Edwards (r14) and Mark Gregory (o28).
Geoff Hemsil (r21) and Mark Spiller (o14) twice put Services C ahead at Services A but it was the ‘hosts’ who emerged 4-2 victors thanks to wins from Martin Spencer (o28), Vince Fitter (o42) and Jake Haslam (o14).
Peter Jackson (r7) held his nerve to win the deciding fifth-frame of Pyramid D’s 4-2 win at Services D. Marcus Hamilton (o28) and Peter Sharpe-Grose (r7) twice put Pyramid in front but Paul Spicer (o21) and Ian Smith (r7) levelled both times before Jackson saw off the challenge of Russ Morse (o7) 54-38 in the decider.
It is tight at the top of Division Two with only five points separating the leaders from eighth place. The top three all won 4-2, keeping Holbeach E a point clear after derby success at Holbeach A.
Carl Andrews (r7) and Rob Coaten (r14) twice gave them the advantage but Andy Taylor (scr) and Stuart Atkin (o42) pulled things level twice. Atkin’s win included a 36 break and 25 clearance. The match was decided by James Crampton, who made a 27 clearance in his 82-53 win against Wayne Dent (o49).
Consti F remain second thanks to their win against Donington A, despite a 27 clearance by Tony Scully (o42) in his opening frame win for the away side. Bryan Turnell (r14) responded with a 22 clearance to level and Darren Stanley (r28) put Consti ahead. Nigel Brasier (o28) made it 2-2 before Robert Adams (o7) settled things.
Another Holbeach derby saw the B team win at Holbeach F to sit a point off top spot but from a match fewer. Garry Cooke (o21) and Barry Haynes (o14) put them 2-0 up but David Lefley (r28) and Susan Lefley (r28) levelled before Adi Liquorish (r14) won the last frame.
Norman Vaughan’s (o21) nerve-wracking 66-65 black-ball win against Paul Doades (scr) was all that saved Pyramid A from a whitewash at home to Services B. The other games all went in favour of the away team, thanks to Andy Neal (r7), Jason Rose (o28), Alan Hansard (scr) and Jeff Collins (scr).
Gosberton D also enjoyed 5-1 away-day glory at Pyramid B. Darren Hibbins (o7) was the only home winner, coming out on top of a black-ball game against Lynn Simmons (r14). Gosberton’s points came courtesy of James Parrott (r7), Neil Simmons (o14), Keith Lungley (o28) and Paolo Gensiorskys (scr).
Andy Blythe (o14) chalked up breaks of 31 and 21 before a 39 clearance completed Whittlesey A’s comeback to earn a 4-2 win against Pyramid E. Lee Cavozzi (o7) and Jeremy Radford (scr) had given the visitors a 2-1 lead but Malc Bruce (scr) and Blythe turned things round after Graeme Sawyer’s (o14) earlier win.
Consti B missed the chance to take over at the top of Division Three after slumping 4-2 at home to Consti I. Leaders Holbeach G were without a game and hold a one-point lead. John Pike (r14) put Consti ahead but John Bellerby (r14) levelled. Martin Fear (o7) regained the home initiative before Phil Tweddell (scr) and Richard Geddes (r28) span the score in the visitors’ favour. David Twelves (o7) hit a 29 break in his defeat by Fear.
The Gosberton club clash went in favour of the C team, who are third, three points off the top, after beating their B team 4-2. Nigel Goodwin (r14) put the B team in front but Chris Sibley (r14) equalised. Mark Howlett (o7) restored the B team lead with a 28 break before Stuart Tamplin (r7) and Mark Payne (o14) won to bring success for the C team.
Boundary B slipped off the title pace, going down 4-2 at home to Consti A.
The league’s bottom two swapped places, with Donington B winning 4-2 at Consti C to leapfrog the hosts. Pete Burrell (o7) put Donington ahead but Terry George (r14) and Steve Crane (scr) turned things in Consti’s favour. Burrell returned to win a black-ball game against Mark Craig (r14) with Gav Lewis (o14) winning the decider.
Donington D twice came back from behind to secure a 4-2 win against Consti D. Michella George (r28), Alan Stanley (r7) and Dan Sawdy (scr) were the home victors. Steve Moore (r21) and Martin Perkins (o28) had given Consti the lead.
Elsewhere, Whittlesey B had a 4-2 victory at Consti J.
