Leaders are given shock by Hastings

A shock looked on the cards in East Women’s League Division Three North West when league leaders Cambridge South 3s were being held 1-1 by Long Sutton Ladies at half-time.

After going 1-0 ahead, their 100 per cent record looked in danger of being dented when Milly Hastings levelled for the visitors.

However, it was one-way traffic after the break with Sutton’s defence being breached six times in the 7-1 defeat.
Sutton Seconds suffered a 3-0 reversal at Cambridge South 5s, who had gone into the Division Four North West encounter without a point to their name but came out of having leapfrogged their visitors in the standings.

A 2-2 draw at home to Bury St Edmunds kept Long Sutton just ahead of the drop zone in East Men’s League Division One North.

Frazer Watt put the hosts ahead but they trailled 2-1 at half-time. Josh Baker proved to be the point saver with a goal 10 minutes into the second half.

The second team remain in the promotion hunt in Division Three North West after a 4-1 victory over Cambridge City 4s.

Edmund White, James Collingwood-Smith, Chris Smith and Luke Jackson got the goals to leave them third in the table.

Sutton Thirds had a tough time at home to Division Five North West title-chasing Bourne Deeping 3s with Alex Canham on target in a 4-1 defeat for the bottom-placed side.
