A benchmark for success

Astute substitutions by manager Callum Lawe reaped a rich reward for Holbeach United with a 3-1 win at Wivenhoe Town in Division One North of the Eastern Counties League on Saturday.

All the goals came in the second half, with two of the Tigers’ strikes coming off the bench.

Substitute Patrick Kacirek opened the scoring when he converted a low cross and a low shot from Denis Coelho made it 2-0 after the hosts had hit a post.

Euan Shepherd pulled one back for the Essex side before a Holbeach free-kick was headed off the line by a defender.

Jamal Shenille made the points safe when the substitute converted after the Tigers capitalised on a loose pass from the hosts.

Wivenhoe had a shot cleared off line but Lawe’s young side held on for all three points. The teams meet again on Saturday, this time at Carter’s Park.

Tigers: Sellars, West Roberts, Goult, Nicholson, Millinson, Hyde, Hamilton, Greenfield, Garner, Coelho. Subs: Carter, Kacirek, Oldham, Shenille
Attendance: 67.
