Crowds gathered under mainly sunny skies last weekend as athletes from across the region competed in the annual Bourne Outdoor Water Polo Tournament, a highly anticipated tradition that brings together teams of variety of skill levels.
Spalding Water Polo hosted the event and entered two mixed team captained by Aaron Trevor for the Orcas and Adam Gibbons for the Sharks.
Northampton, Hertford, Cambridge and Grantham joined for a round robin tournament.
The tournament ended with an awards ceremony, recognising the standout performances and the hard work of the volunteers who made the event possible.
Northampton won overall ending the tournament unbeaten, with Hertford second with just the one loss.
Grantham came third, Cambridge fourth and Spalding Sharks fifth and Spalding Orcas Sixth.
In the head-to-head between the two Spalding teams, Sharks came out on top with a battling victory.
MVP (Most Valuable Player) for the Sharks went to Nathan Henfry whilst Taylor Scales was MVP for the Orcas with a debut outing in goal.
A huge thank you to the team at Bourne Outdoor Pool for their support, the team on the table and senior referee Dave Lord for his wisdom and guidance.
Spalding return to league match action away against Milton Keynes today (Thursday).
Training now returns at the Castle Sports swimming pool in Spalding 8pm-10pm every Tuesday if you are interested and can swim eight lengths without stopping, have a look at the group’s Facebook page.
