A last-gasp strike from Jordan Goult completed a solid comeback for Holbeach United as they opened their Thurlow Nunn League campaign with a home win.
They had to do it the hard way though, twice coming back from behind at home to Needham Market Reserves before clinching all three Division One North points with a 3-2 victory.
The visitors opened the scoring but Matas Vaidiluskis levelled after 32 minutes.
The Suffolk side regained the lead and looked set for victory with a 2-1 lead going into the last ten minutes.
However, substitute Jamal Shenille equalised and Goult fired in the
88th-minute winner.
The Tigers were back in action on Wednesday evening, with a short trip to Parson Drove, and are at Long Melford on Saturday.
New manager Callum Lawe has retained only three of last season’s squad and admits the changes will mean the game plan being different.
Many of those players have come through the Tigers’ youth set-up but Lawe said: “I brought in two lads from Step 5 who are going to bring lots of experience, that will be great for the changing room and for the boys to learn from.
“This is a great club with a great history and prior to the last couple of season has always been a top club at Step 5 and that’s where we want to get back to.
“I’m already heavily involved at youth level through the football college and now is the right time to bring it all together.”
