GALLERY – Scarecrows and ice cream on garden crawl

The weather was glorious for the Moulton Garden Crawl and Scarecrow Festival.

Organisers say it was a fabulous turnout with Saturday being the busiest day, despite the blazing sunshine.

There was a total of 17 open gardens, 17 scarecrows and 21 yard sales, along with a barbecue, cream teas and other refreshments.

There were craft stalls, a plant stall, the raffle and bottle tombola and due to the heat the committee put out an emergency call for an ice cream van. Several of the gardens were also running their own fundraising activities.

Mandy Baker, bookings officer for Moulton Community Association, said: “It was a really good atmosphere all weekend, everyone had a great time, including those helping to run refreshments and stalls. A big thank you to everyone who supported the event.”

The competition for the winning scarecrow was a tie between Gisela Bell, with the wizarding knitters and Bridge Jones with the cricketer.

Organisers are still working on the figures but it is thought they have raised around £2,300, which will go towards the upkeep of the community centre and the village hall.

The event is listed in the national open garden directory and attracted visitors from as far afield as Buckinghamshire and Somerset.
