Jarvis rues missed chances as Tigers held by basement boys

Holbeach Utd 1
Long Buckby 1

Darren Jarvis rued two points dropped as his Holbeach United side were held to a 1-1 draw at UCL Premier Division basement boys Long Buckby on Saturday.

A 47th-minute goal from the in-form Gary King put the Tigers in command at Station Road – and the visitors had plenty of chances to cement their advantage.

They paid the price for their profligacy too, as Buckby’s assistant manager Stefan Jones levelled five minutes into added time.

Jarvis, who handed a debut to young Boston United keeper Jamie Bradley, had to do without a host of regulars – including skipper Jamie Clarke, keeper Nick Conroy and striker Andrew Tidswell.
But he refused to be too downbeat.

“I thought the Long Buckby lads battled pretty well,” said the Holbeach boss. “But we had more than enough chances to put the game to bed if I’m honest.

“I’m not quite sure how the referee found all of that added time, but we’ll not dwell on that. We spurned too many chances and paid the price.

“Performance-wise – and with a lot of players out – I thought we did OK. We looked good in possession at times, but just weren’t clinical enough.”

Tigers: Bradley, Delahoy, Parker, Brown (G Chappell), Worthington, Kirby, Newcombe, Keeble, Newman, Sanders, King.
