Costly Langtoft loss for struggling Long Sutton Athletic

Long Sutton Athletic’s hopes of staying in ChromaSport Peterborough League Division One suffered a big blow on Saturday.

The Magpies suffered a crushing 3-0 loss at Langtoft United Reserves, who are the only side below them in the standings.

Should two teams go down, Sutton will need something from their final game of the season, a home test against promotion-chasing Ketton on Saturday (2pm), and hope other results go their way.

Also in Division One, resurgent Moulton Harrox Reserves beat high-flying AFC Stanground 2-1 at Broad Lane to make it six wins on the spin.

Ben Allen and Declan Earth netted for Moulton, who haven’t lost since February 14.

Sutton Bridge United, meanwhile, lost a seven-goal thriller 4-3 at ICA Sports Reserves. Jake Lally, Ben Partridge and the prolific Matt Eaton got their goals.

Up in the Premier Division, Pinchbeck United were the only South Holland side in Saturday action. They lost 2-0 at ICA Sports – and are now a month without a win.

In Division Two, David Howe’s strike wasn’t enough for Crowland Town Reserves as they lost 2-1 at home to Ketton Reserves.

Spalding Town kept the pressure in Division Three leaders Peterborough Sports A after their 4-0 success at Uppingham Reserves. Markus Parry (2), Martin Sandall and James Thorold notched for in-form Town.

Tydd St Mary lost 4-3 at home to Farcet United in the same tier, despite goals from Will Kirkham, Nick Reims and Jake Clitheroe.

In Division Four, Sutton Bridge United Reserves had Jamie Freebairn and Matthew Wood sent off – but still beat Holbeach Bank 5-2.

Jamie Griffin (3), Nick Lee and Ray Points got their goals.
