Hundreds of pupils at Pinchbeck East Primary School have put the laps in to raise money for an 11-year-old footballer who has lost her leg due to cancer.
Annalise Goddard, also 11, wanted to do something for Millie Blair who has osteosarcoma, a rare blood cancer.
“We played in the same football league together,” said Annalise, who plays for ICA U11s and Spalding United Boys U11s Whites.
“I have always admired her as a great footballer and she is so active as well as kind and super friendly to talk to.
“So, because I am her friend and I care about her I decided to raise some money for her to be able to afford the prosthetic leg that she needs to achieve her new dreams.
“As there are sadly lots of others going through the same thing as Millie, I am going to donate half of the money we raise to the charity Children with Cancer UK to help them as well.”
Last Friday afternoon everyone at Pinchbeck East School took to the Knight Street playing field for the ‘Mini-Marathon’ organised by Annalise.
They earned stamps for every lap of the field they did.
Annalise’s mum Zoe Goddard has been a teacher at the school for 11 years.
“It’s shocking to hear what this 11-year-old has been through,” she said. “Annalise has played against her Oundle Town side on many occasions and Millie was someone she always took noticed of and admired.
“Millie’s family are fundraising to purchase a new leg which could help her play football again.
“Annalise did all the organisation and it’s great she’s been able to create something positive.”
