Cowbit’s Jaxon Ellis has been called up for international action.
The nine-year-old kick-boxer will be in the Team GB Wako side in Braga, Portugal in August.
He qualified thanks to an impressive performance in the Wako Kickboxing GB Nationals in Nottingham. In two points fighting categories, he fought his way through the rounds of the -33kg category, reaching the finals and narrowly missing out on a win and taking a silver medal.
However, the youngster fought his heart out with immense skill, technique and top notch backing from his Inspired Martial Arts coach Jamie Johannes in the -36kg round to win gold. That earned him the national title and automatic qualification to fight for Team GB.
Ellis will now be training on a monthly basis with the national squad in Birmingham and High Wycombe and will attend an intense training camp at Lilleshall National Sports Centre in July.
He will also be competing in World Association Kickboxing Organisation competitions in Bath and Crawley.
His mum Jemma said: “We are so proud of Jaxon. He has achieved his dream of fighting for Team GB, now let’s hope he brings home another gold medal and title.
“Thanks go to all the coaches at Inspired Martial Arts in Peterborough for their hard work, teaching, coaching and dedication to Jaxon.”
A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help Ellis get to Portugal for anyone wishing to donate or sponsor him – tinyurl.com/JaxonPort
