Spalding daffodils are Easter hit with shoppers

A whopping three million bunches of daffodils – or 60 million stems – from Spalding have been brightening up homes across the country this Easter.

As spring gets underway, a host of golden daffodils have shown their pretty faces in fields across South Holland – including the one in this photograph.

The picture was taken at K Martin and Son’s in Spalding, where daffodil farmer Colin Martin has been growing the traditional flower for national supermarket chain, Asda.

Mr Martin has worked with Asda for six years and his family run business has been growing daffodils for more than 40 years.

And it was this deal with the supermarket giant that saw the millions of blooms sold at Asda stores during the Easter period.

Mr Martin said: “Daffodils are a spring time favourite as well as the traditional Easter bouquet, and with the UK being the largest producer of daffodils, we’re pleased to see that Brits are embracing their horticultural heritage.

“Not to mention, they’re great value too. Since working with Asda our sales have increased by 120 per cent – good news for British growers!”

One of Britain’s leading retailers, Asda has 592 stores across the UK and more than 18 million people shop at Asda stores every week.
