Work on Coronation Channel footpath to start next month

Work on updating part of the footpath along Spalding’s Coronation Chanel to Springfields is due to start next month.

The 240 metre footpath will cost £288,000 and is the second phase of the Spalding Active Travel project being funded by ‘Levelling Up’ government money.

Work on it has been delayed, but the nine weeks of work will now start on February 3.

Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said: “Last year, we extended and resurfaced the existing shared-use path on Holbeach Road and we’re now ready to carry out the next phase of this important project.

“Starting next month, we’ll be further improving connections to the Springfield Outlet area by building a brand-new 240-metre link along the Coronation Bank from Holbeach Road to the shopping outlet car park.

“The overall aim of this project is to provide people with safer, more reliable sustainable travel options in Spalding. We’re doing this by improving connectivity via the area’s footways and cycleways, which will hopefully encourage more people to leave their cars at home to walk or cycle instead.”

Parts of the footpath along the A151 will be closed for the works.

Coun Davies added: “We don’t expect there to be much disruption caused by these works. However, there may be times when the footpath and/or the northern A151 footway will need to be closed. A local diversion will be in place, and we ask anyone using this route to follow any posted signs.”
