Spalding catch Bedford napping

A stunning five-goal blast saw Spalding United stretch their unbeaten Southern League Premier Central Division run to eight games.

Four wins and four draws have seen Jimmy Dean’s team soar up the table from a bottom four spot into the top nine and left the manager purring with delight.
“It was a fantastic feeling,” he said. “We had been threatening to do it for a little while because we’ve had a lot of games where we’ve created a lot of chances but we showed a real clinical edge today.
“Bedford had won five on the trot, they were third in the league and we came away and scored five goals to turn them over on their own patch.
“It would have taken a top, top side to stop us today.”
Five players got their names on the scoresheet with Kieron Freeman, Joe Nyahwema, Maniche Sani, Dion Sembie-Ferris and James Clifton completing the nap hand.
It was goalkeeper Tony Breeden’s last match for the club, after asking to be released to join a team nearer his Birmingham base.
Dean moved quickly to snap up a replacement with former Peterborough United old boy Aaron Chapman joining from Hereford. The 6ft 8in, 34 year-old made 39 appearances for Posh and played under Dean at Scunthorpe United, as well as for Accrington, Gillingham and Boston United.
Dean said: “I’ve worked with him previously and he’s a great goalkeeper and a great lad. He’s become available and we’ve done it because Tony asked to go. He goes with my complete blessing.”
Tulips: Breeden, Walker, Fox, Moore, Cartwright, Lawlor, Sembie-Ferris (Leshabela), Freeman (Hilliard), Cybulski (Hudson), Sani, Nyahwema (Clifton). Subs: Chapman.
Attendance: 844.
