MPs quest on dementia

South Holland and the Deepings MP Sir John Hayes recently supported a Parliamentary event held by the Alzheimer’s Society, as part of their campaign to raise awareness and support for dementia training.

Sir John Hayes said “It was a pleasure to meet one of my constituents at the event, who spoke movingly about her experience of caring for her father who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease.”
“Dementia training can bring significant benefits for sufferers, and I will do my part to raise awareness. It is vital that all care staff are given the opportunity to undertake evidence-based dementia training.
“I have also written to the care minister to take the action that people living with dementia need.”
Sir John said: “People living with dementia make up 70 per cent of care home residents in England, but dementia training is not mandatory for adult social care staff.
“As a result, only 29 per cent of the social care workforce in England have received any form of dementia training.
“I am determined that we can and must do better.”
