Drayman’s A cause Division One upset

In Division One of the Spalding Darts League, Drayman’s A caused an upset and beat Rose and Crown 5-4.

Drayman’s went 2-1 up after the pairs and then extended their lead with Kev Newton beating Adam Godfrey, who had a 180 and a 16-dart leg.
Rose and Crown hit back with a win by James Truman, but the match was soon over with Phil Newton beating Gary Mace and Richard Cooper sealing the win with a victory over Dan Carnell.
Ian Lawson and Hank Watson won the last two games for the Crown.
Tigers C remained unbeaten after a fine 7-2 win over Punchbowl A.
Wins for Simon Hill, Mark Horspool, Ant Richardson, Duncan Hunt and Kev Aldhous sealed the game for the Tigers.
Harry Walsh was the only winner for the Punchbowl in the singles.
Richardson had a 17-dart leg, but Hill went one better with a 16-dart leg.
The final game in the division was a 6-3 win for Consti E against Lincoln A.
The story of the season seems to be the importance of winning two or more of the pairs games and this was no exception.
After going 2-1 up, Consti were in the driving seat. Luke Rhodes got a win for the Lincoln but singles wins by Calum Ward, Dan Gent, Jason Chilvers and Mark Dixon sealed the win. Steve Stancer won the last game for the Lincoln.
Gent and Rhodes both had 180s, and Gent hit his in a fine 13-dart leg. Ward fired in an 18-dart leg.
In Division Two, Ye Olde Abbey go top with their 6-3 win over Mail Cart A.
Again after going 2-1 up in the pairs, the Abbey then took control of the game, winning the next four singles games thanks to Scott Lawrence, Dave Norbury, Craig Norbury and JJ Bird. The two singles winners for the Mail Cart were Steve Rawding and Paul Faulkner.
Lawrence had an 18-dart leg in his win and Norbury hit a 17-dart leg.
Ship Long Sutton continue to struggle in Division 2 after winning Division 3 last season.
This week they lost 6-3 to Drayman’s B.
Singles wins for Wigs Harrison, Graham French, Sandy Sandison and Shane Thorpe sealed the points for the Drayman’s.
Consolation singles wins for the Ship came from Jake Hinta-Penta and Zach Chapman.
Final game in Division Two was the closest of the division which was a 5-4 win for Tigers B against Green Dragon A.
The Tigers did this the hard way and went 2-1 down in pairs, but a singles win for Richard Brooks over Sean Trafford put the score at 2-2.
Dragon edged into the lead thanks to a win for Tim Hester against Ian McCreery, but two fine singles wins put Tigers back in the lead.
Simon Horton made sure the game would go all the way and won for the Dragon with a 116 check out in his win. But Mark Robinson held his nerve against Adam Clark and took the victory for Tigers B.
Onto Division Three where Holbeach Services remain unbeaten and extended their run with a 6-3 win over Lincoln B.
Services won all three pairs games and sealed the win thanks to Dan Blakey, Stu Stephens and Chris Chamberlain.
Chamberlain was player of the night and had ten scores of 100 or more including a nice 180.
Mail Cart B dominated the game against Punchbowl B and won 8-1.
Jonny Pell, Kieran Twitchen, Tracey Baldwin, Andy Taylor and Carl Kirk all won their singles games,
Hayley Wicks got the only win for Punchbowl B.
Final game was a 6-3 win for Consti E against Green Dragon B, this keeps the Consti in the hunt for the title.
Singles wins for John Robinson, Nick Collins, Lindsey Wingell, Colin Beckett and Ady Smith sealed the night for the Consti.
Finn Mottram was the only single’s winner for the Dragon in his win over Lewis Turner.
