Big cash boost for youth centre

Gosberton Youth Centre has been awarded more than £18,000 by the Asda Foundation.

The 65 ‘Investing in Spaces and Places’ grants have been awarded by the company ranging from £10,000 to £25,000.
Gosberton Youth Centre is for young people from the age of seven to 16 and aims to help them mature.
But the toilets in the building have not been updated for more than 30 years and the flooring is in poor condition. It is difficult to clean and the entire block needs completely modernising.
The £18,650 grant from the foundation will fund a project which will see the toilets made more water efficient, reduce power consumption and includes the installation of a baby change area.
“These wonderful grants have enabled a dedicated group of volunteers to save the youth centre from what could have been demolition,” said Richard Baker, treasurer and trustee of Gosberton Youth Centre.
“We now have well over a hundred children from the local area on our books for our Youth Hubs and have also run community hubs in our revitalised building. The toilet upgrade is one of the last projects needed to complete the upgrade, and we are immensely grateful to the Asda Foundation for their generous grant,” he added.
Community Champion at Asda, Boston, Stephen Bromby said all communities need a safe and inclusive space.
“It is often small, grassroot groups like Gosberton Youth Centre, which become a lifeline for many. But funding is needed to ensure the vital spaces don’t vanish.”
The community hub is open at the centre on the first Saturday of each month and offers refreshments, arts and crafts, free internet access and is a warm space for visitors between 10am and 2pm.
