A Weston Hills resident has called for action after a car ended up hitting a house in the latest of what he says are numerous incidents on a road.
The latest crash on Austendyke Road took place on Sunday, October 27 and involved three vehicles.
“It was a miracle that no-one was injured or killed with one car overturning,” said Ben James, who lives on the road’s crossroad with Broadgate.
“One car struck a house before coming to a stop and it’s incredibly lucky it didn’t cause further damage to the properties, or that the family living in either home were not in the front garden at the time.
“This is one of two crossroads on Austendyke Road with a combination of poor visibility/blind corners, and drivers exceeding the limit regularly through the village.
“It is a rat run used by cars and heavy goods vehicles, and the amount of dangerous speeds I see is frankly horrifying.”
Ben, who has lived in the property for two years, says he contacted Lincolnshire County Council about the issues over a year ago but has yet to hear anything back.
The authority said it would carry out a survey of the road back in 2019.
“Enough is enough. It’s time the county council takes the latest near miss as fair warning of what could have been a real tragedy, addressing the speeding issues on this road with better signage, speed cameras, traffic calming, or better yet, a reduction in the speed limit.
A highways spokesman said there were no formal reports about public safety at that particular junction.
“We will look into the details of the recent collision to see if there’s a need to intervene from a highways perspective,” he said.
