Lions provide all the fun of the fair

The fair was in town last weekend and, as is traditional, children from SEND schools were given the first chance to enjoy the rides.

Around 120 students from the Tulip Academy’s Springview and Waterside Campus as well as the Chappell Centre, plus teachers and one-to-one assistants joined Spalding Lions for two hours of fun at Roger Tuby’s fair in Victoria Street, Spalding.
It was a poignant one for the family fair coming just days after the funeral of the original Roger Tuby Senior who died last month. His son Roger Tuby Junior will continue to run the business.
Julie Grant, vice president of Spalding Lions, said: “It was a fantastic afternoon, the sun shone and the children, who have special additional needs and disabilities, enjoyed free rides thanks to the generosity of Roger and Sophie Tuby and their team.”
This biannual event is organised by Spalding Lions Club, with Lion John Steel being liaison with the Tuby family and the schools, and has been running for over 35 years.
Julie added: “It is a safe environment and the children are able to go on the rides as many times as they want, for as long as they want. Many of these children struggle with loud music, crowds and flashing lights and the Tuby family ensures that everything is adapted accordingly, giving everyone a good time.
“Spalding Lions are on hand if any of the children need to be accompanied on the rides.
“Coun Jan Whitbourn joined us we even got her to go on the dodgems with myself as chauffeur!
“Jan and Sophie were presented with flowers from Spalding Lions Club to thank them for their continued support.”
