Young people in South Holland have been receiving their GCSE results.
- Spalding Academy said it had ‘a record year’ including a 15 per cent increase in the highest grades (seven to nine) compared to 2023.
A spokesman said 45 per cent of students who sat a BTEC qualification achieved the equivalent Distinction* or Distinction grades.
- At its sister school, Cowley Academy, there was ‘a significant increase in GCSE grades 7 to 9 compared to 2023’ with 10 per cent more earning grade five or above in GCSE English and mathematics.
Additionally, 26 per cent of students who sat a BTEC qualification achieved Distinction* or Distinction grades, equivalent to a grade 7 to 9.
Both are part of the South Lincolnshire Academies Trust.
Its chief executive officer, Mrs Lucy Conley said “This set of results demonstrates the incredible hard work of our students and staff, and reflects the students’ hard work and commitment to their studies.
“The success across our schools demonstrates the trust’s commitment to school improvement, and they are offering students in Lincolnshire the best opportunities possible and aspire to be the best they can be.
“A key part of the success of our Trust is to recognise the outstanding successes of our students, so in September we will be recognising and rewarding success at a trust-wide awards ceremony, where all schools can celebrate together.
“I would like to wish all of our amazing young people the very best for their future and I hope they will keep in touch.
“Many will continue their studies in the trust, as a record number of students from Spalding Academy will be joining our SLAT Sixth Form at Bourne Academy.”
- The head of Spalding High School, Mrs Michele Anderson, called her pupils’ results as ‘phenomenal’.
Over 1500 qualifications were taken by our Year 11 students with 46 per cent graded seven to nine which, she said, compare ‘very favourably’ with the attainment rate of 21.7 per cent and regional rate of 18.3 per cent.
Among those who achieved an average of grade eight or higher were: Elizabeth Atolagbe, Claude Ham, Debbie Ibberson, Cordi Mansfield, Lizzy Newson, Emi Praneviciute, Alexa Shogy, Vanessa Singh, Briony Sweeting, Erin Taylor, Lily Theyer and Grace Zacharkiewicz
“The school is so proud of our Year 11 students who have worked tremendously hard on their GCSE studies over the last two years,” Mrs Anderson said. “Their results are a testament to their commitment and hard work alongside the support of their parents and carers and the dedication of our experienced staff.”
