LETTERS – Thank you to Boots’ pharmacy

I would like to draw attention to the amazing, hard working staff at Boots’ pharmacy.
I am sure others also deserve praise, but I recently saw firsthand the professionalism and service at Boots’ pharmacy.
As GPs, A&E, minor injury units and 111 help lines become overloaded and near impossible to reach, more people are turning to or being directed to the pharmacies.
As I stood waiting in the queue the pharmacist on duty moved constantly between consultations and checking medications.
The two assistants dealt calmly and politely with a constant stream of people.
The queue never went below five or six, with at least four on the other side waiting for medications to be dispensed.
The staff didn’t stop and in the 45 minutes I was there, there seemed no end in sight.
Whilst the government policy, possibly of all parties, seems to be to reduce the workload of GPs and try to manage the numbers seeking alternative help at hospitals it seems the pharmacy services will be the next to crack under the pressure, especially given the number that have closed in Spalding.
We need to be grateful for the work these shops are doing, value them and hope they receive the support and funding they deserve, because without them the hole we are in would get a heck of a lot deeper.
