Harriers take on Festival in numbers

Halmer Harriers enjoyed a mass turnout at the Peterborough Festival of Running on Sunday, with competitors taking to the 5k, 10k and half marathon courses.

The club had 39 runners taking part, with all but two making it to the finish line.
A superb event was well organised by Run Through and, because the Spalding-based club had the most runners there, they were allowed to take their gazebo and flag to the run village.
That gave them the chance to publicise their own popular club event, The West Pinchbeck 10k, which is being held on Sunday, September 29.
It is usually a sell-out event and is a great one for personal bests – or for a first attempt at 10k because it is on flat roads, well signposted and with superb support from the marshals.
Harmer Harriers Peterborough Festival of Running results: 5K – Tim Baxter 29:36, Maija Garkalne 21:31, Debs Norman 33:48, Jayne Pell 35:37, Helena Peters 35:15, Della Smith 36:26, Vanessa Speak 33:09, Carole Sycamore 33:38, Karen Wallis 35:20, Rebekah Whitmore 33:09, Teresa Blake 40:29.

Saturday’s Snowden Field Parkrun in Crowland was won by Peterborough & Nene Valley AC youngster Louie Hemmings. The junior 11-14 runner completed the 5K course in a personal best time of 17:29.
Halmer Harriers’ Richard Williams warmed up for the following day’s Peterborough 10K with an 11th place finish in 24:22, while clubmate Adam Caress strolled round at the back in 53:03.
Janet Strickland also took on a Parkrun ahead of her Peterborough 10K, completing the Huntingdon event in 34:12, for 23rd place of 312 runners. Fellow Harrier Daisy Jowers finished 375th of 615 in Camberwell, London, at the Burgess Parkrun in 28:54, while at Doddington Hall, near Lincoln, Jayne Pell and Kathryn Chapman came home 257th and 258th respectively in 35:58 and 36:03.
There will be no Snowden Field Parkrun this Saturday due to the unavailability of the venue.
