Lily and Lucia lead the way in super Spalding showing

Talented duo Lily Thompson and Lucia Kato shared top spot as Spalding Gymnastics Academy enjoyed another day to remember at the Lincolnshire county floor and vault championship.

Clubs from all over the county took part in the event, which was hosted at Spalding’s Cradge Bank base.

It was an excellent day all-round for the host club, who started superbly with Maisie Foden’s silver medal in the nine years age group.

Talented Thompson went one better in the ten years age group as she stormed to the gold medal.

Team-mate Kato kept the Spalding flag flying by winning gold in the 11 years age group, with Millie Weller just behind her to take the bronze. Also performing well in the same category were Maddie Freeman (fifth) and Danni Garner (sixth).

Spalding’s success continued in the 12 years age group as Liberty Foden carried on the club’s winning ways by grabbing another glorious gold.

Amazingly, the hosts locked out the podium, as Katie-Marie Parker sealed silver and Miah Farrell picked up the bronze.

Another medal was won In the 13 years competition, with Grace Mooney earning a well-deserved bronze.

Spalding couldn’t add to their tally in the last age group, but Alex Osbiston (fourth), Myah Woods (fifth) and Maddie Redhead (sixth) all finished very well.

The added bonus came at the end of the day, with Thompson and Kato finishing as joint overall winners.

Meanwhile, the event also served as a qualifier for the county team to take part in the regional inter-county championships at Leicester in April. The Spalding gymnasts who will now represent the county are Maisie Foden, Thompson, Kato, Liberty Foden, Parker, Farrell, Osbiston and Redhead.

It was a brilliant day for all the gymnasts who performed excellent new floor routines choreographed by Kelsie Porter.
