Many of your readers will know about, and use, the Voluntary Car Service.
We are looking for new drivers in all areas as the numbers have reduced and in Sutton Bridge, there are no local drivers.
You do not have to be available every day, nor every hour. You can let the organisers know what days and times you are available, and they can let you know of that fits in when passengers need transport.
There are arrangements with most insurance companies that you notify them you are driving for a voluntary car service and there’s no additional premium.
All drivers will have a Data Barring Scheme (DBS) check which allows them to work with the elderly and young people in the community. There is some training regarding safeguarding and we can arrange it on a one-to-one basis.
Drivers receive 55p per mile (subject to change), 25p patient contribution and 30p from the charity.
The minimum charge for a journey (1-10 miles) is £3. When possible we will take patients from neighbouring parishes which are not in the scheme, sadly their journeys are not subsidised and are charged at a full rate of 55p per mile.
Parishes covered are Spalding and Cowbit , Holbeach, Crowland, Long Sutton, Gedney, Lutton, Sutton Bridge, Pinchbeck, The Moultons, Westons and Whaplode.
In 2017 there was a total of 65 drivers, now we have 40 and Sutton Bridge has none.
