Barclays update ahead of closure

Customers of Barclays Bank in Spalding are being offered alternative arrangements immediately after it closes on May 10.

Consultations over the closure included the bank contacting MP Sir John Hayes, council member Elizabeth Sneath and district council member Gary Taylor.
The bank said it also contacted personal and business customers who used the branch in Hall Place.
“We understand the concerns about the closure. We’d like to reassure everyone that, before deciding to close, we looked very carefully at how the branch is used and found that many customers already use nearby branchers and online or telephone banking,” said a statement.
In the immediate future there will be face-to-face appointments at the town library in Victoria Street from Monday, May 12 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 9.30am to 12.30pm and 1pm to 4.30pm.
There might be walk in appointments available, but bookings can also be made at the website barclays.co.uk/local and there is no counter or cash services available via the arrangement.
“To keep a community focus and support the local area, everyday banking can be done at the Post Office in Spalding.
“We are helping our customers understand which transactions they can do there, how to bank from home or their business premises and offering them support through this transition.”
Cash can be withdrawn at ATMs in the town or via the Post Office.
“We’re nearing the closure of our Spalding branch,” said a statement.
“We understand that closing a branch affects different communities in different ways, so we’ve spoken to people locally to listen to their concerns.
“We are speaking individually to those customers most likely to be affected by the closure, and we’re helping them feel confident with alternative ways to bank,” the statement.
Customers are also invited to the next-nearest branches in Peterborough and King’s Lynn.
“We have been offering support from our branch’s Digital Eagles. They’re helping customers adapt to new ways of banking so they don’t need to use a branch as often.”
When the closure was announced earlier this year, along with a raft of other branches around the country, the bank said that it had less than ten customers using the branch on a regular basis.
The company also said 91 per cent of people using the branch also used the app, online and by phone.
